![]() ![]() It's not terribly different than some existing calibers like. That's good for me personally, because that's the hunting/murder type that I do most of. basically a purpose-built "hog hunting gun" with big knockdown/short barrel for quieter sub-300 yard shots. In conclusion, im excited for the 8.6 blackout, but it looks better to me as a more compact alternative to supersonic. 308, then i prefer the more compact package. If I can get roughly the same supersonic performance out if a 12" barrel with 8.6 blk as an 18" barrel. This comparison seems more favorable to me. With supersonic loads, it will outperform a 18” barreled. ![]() "out of a 12.5” barrel the 8.6 Creedmoor with a 155GR bullet at 2500FPS brings 2,100 ft. So if you're realistically working within, sat 200 yards due to bullet drop, and 8.6 energy isn't that much higher in this range, im not seeing a huge advantage.not enough to justify the extra weight of a larger frame, a larger 338 suppressor, an extra 4" barrel length over 300 blk. However, the bullet drop from both rounds is going to be the same due to subsonic velocity limit.and the real limit on effective range here is bullet drop! Nobody is going to be making shots at 600 yards with that kind of bullet drop. At 600 yards, 300 blk is considerably less, around 300 ft lbs.so it doesn't retain energy as well at long range. By comparison, 300 blackout 220 grain from an 8" barrel is 550 ft lbs, not that much less at the muzzle. at the muzzle and is still maintaining 550 ft. "Using 300+ grain expanding subsonic loads, the 8.6 Creedmoor generates 650+ ft. 8.6 blackout is being pitched as an awesome new suppressed round. ![]()
